Family Photo Session at Corriganville Park in Simi Valley – Why Imperfect Moments Make the Best Memories
I recently had the sweetest family photo session at Corriganville Park in Simi Valley, and it reminded me once again why I love photographing families in every season — even the unpredictable ones. This beautiful family returned to me almost exactly one year after their last session, and wow… what a difference twelve months can make. Kids grow, personalities bloom, and time feels faster than ever — which is why documenting each stage matters so deeply.
During this session, their little boy missed his nap and needed a lot of extra snuggles. He wanted to be held close, to feel safe, and to be near his parents — and that was perfectly okay. As both a photographer and a mom, I want families to know this:
A missed nap doesn’t ruin your photos.
Sometimes it creates the ones you’ll treasure the most.
Tiny hands holding tight…
Sleepy eyes tucked into your shoulder…
Soft cheeks pressed against your chest…
Those are the moments you will long to remember one day. And even in the snuggles, I’m able to capture the tiny features you never want to forget — little fingers, eyelashes, curls, pouty lips, and all the small details that change far too quickly.
It was also so fun to see how much the kids have grown since our last session. Their little boy is still as serious and thoughtful as ever — and you know what? That’s not something to change or “fix.” If that’s his personality, that is exactly what deserves to be photographed. Authenticity is always more powerful than posing.
And big sister?
She absolutely shined this year!
She loved the camera, brought all the smiles and personality, and had her moment to sparkle — she truly understood the assignment.
Family sessions don’t need to be perfect to be meaningful.
Real life — snuggles, emotions, personalities, and all — is worth documenting.
If you’re considering a family photo session in Simi Valley, Corriganville Park is one of my favorite locations for natural, timeless images filled with connection and emotion. And remember… whether your child is full of giggles, quiet, silly, serious, or snuggly — who they really are is the story worth remembering.
