Best Friend Photoshoot at Underwood Family Farms Tulip Fields in February
Lexie and her two besties understood the assignment. Behind the scenes, they were pure chaos in the best possible way. Laughing. Twirling. Making TikToks between shots. Hyping each other up like professional best friend cheerleaders. Every time I lowered my camera, they were already mid dance move or doubled over laughing.
Then I would lift the camera and everything softened. Heads leaning together. Easy smiles. The kind of expressions that only come from years of shared memories. That balance is what I love most about best friend senior sessions. You get the sparkle and the sincerity.
And here is the part that melted my photographer heart. Between takes, they grabbed their phones and started taking behind the scenes videos and photos for me. For me. Capturing content, hyping the session, making sure I had little snippets to share. How sweet is that?
We shot their best friend photoshoot at Underwood Family Farms right in the heart of February while the tulip fields were in full bloom. Rows of pink, red, and yellow stretching toward the horizon, golden California light pouring over everything. It felt like spring arrived early.
Each year, the Underwood Family Farms tulip fields bloom in late winter, turning February into one of the most colorful months for photos in Ventura County. The farm sets it up beautifully with charming props like the iconic windmill and the vintage bathtub tucked among the flowers, giving every tulip field photoshoot variety and personality.
Admission is only $20 per person, and you can wander through the fields, take photos, and even pick flowers. They are open until 5pm, and in early March they extend hours to 6pm, which makes golden hour senior portraits even more magical.
Tulip season in California is short, which makes it extra special. These blooms show up boldly and briefly, just like senior year. That is why February tulip field sessions are some of my favorites for senior photos, best friend pictures, and even family portraits.
Lexie and her girls reminded me that the best photos are not just about the backdrop. They are about connection. And when you mix genuine friendship with a field full of February tulips, you get something unforgettable. 🌷✨
