I met up with Marissa and Michael at Challenger Park in Simi Valley for their maternity session, and even though we lost most of the sunlight by the time we started, it honestly didn’t matter. These two brought all the warmth we needed. They’re one of those couples who are just so easy to be around — down to earth, relaxed, and completely in love. You can feel how excited they are to meet their sweet little boy soon, and that joy showed in every moment together.
We wandered through one of my favorite spots at Challenger Park — the dry riverbed. The trees there always create the most beautiful natural frame, and they wrapped around Marissa and Michael perfectly. Even without golden light, the soft, even glow of the evening gave everything a calm, peaceful feel. Marissa looked stunning in her cowgirl boots standing along the long dirt road, and that quiet stretch of path fit the vibe of their session so well — simple, natural, and full of heart.
Some of my favorite images are the in-between moments — the way Michael looked at Marissa, the way she rested her hands on her bump, and the laughter they shared when they thought no one was watching. You can just tell they’re going to be incredible parents. Their love for each other and their baby boy is already so real and so present.
Challenger Park never disappoints for maternity photos, and this session reminded me why. It’s peaceful, rustic, and full of little spots that tell a story without trying too hard. I’m so grateful Marissa and Michael trusted me to capture this season of life for them, right before their world changes in the best way.
